We wish everyone a good night of sleep. But while some sleep, others are being affected by BAD, BLUE-WHITE, LED lighting across Phoenix. Companies have demonstrated they will do LED lighting correctly. Now is when the City Council should cap LED at 2700K! Waiting ten years for the 1992 Lighting Code to be updated to INCLUDE LED LIGHTS is LONG ENOUGH.Phoenicians helped city staff and City Council Members learn about LED lighting and the harmful effects of LED light fixtures at 4000K & 5000K. In fall of 2016 City Council voted 9-0 in favor of 2700 Kelvin streetlights! YET - A DECADE LATER Phoenix is falling behind 24 other Arizona cities and towns that have an updated Lighting Code. Last year, the Director of Planning & Development said LED would not be addressed until 2032. But he added 2034 is more likely before LED lighting will be considered.
While this time line was due to limited staff we provided an “excellent” example of a modern lighting code. However, that gift did not help. Much like in 2016, when a key city street staffer said, “I never went to see the LED lighting test area because I don’t work after 5:00 pm” aka streets lights on at night. Today - or night - seems like a repeat.> Horrible LED outdoor lighting continues to grow city wide. > Blinding LED, and unhealthy LED are still allowed every night. > Both health and environmental issues are being ignored. > LED use less energy; but oddly. more outdoor lighting is occurring. Let your City of Phoenix Council Member know about this serious mistake made by the City Staff - AGAIN.https://www.phoenix.gov/administration/mayorcouncil.html

NEW 2025 apartment complex has harsh blue-white 5000K LED fixtures outside and over the parking lot. While correctly shielded, you can see a few soft-white 3000K fixtures mixed with the bad LED lighting on the exterior of all the buildings. Nearby is Shaw Butte Mtn., that’s within the Preserves. This lighting is harmful to wildlife and the apartment residents.
Edison’s incandescent light bulb (2600K) had almost no blue within our visual spectrum. Much like a fireplace.

Phoenix had High Pressure Sodium (HPS) street lights for over 50 years. These light fixtures only came with one color level at 2200 Kelvin. Pittsburgh PA recently installed new LED street lights rated at 2200K - AMBER wins!
The blue-white spike of these LED light fixtures produces an unhealthy environment.

It remains unclear why the Parks Department has not changed these 5000K LED fixtures to the 2700K models approved by the Parks Director in 2016?
The worse blue-white LED light fixture recorded. Solar powered fixture advertised at 6500K but it showed 7848K to a light meter*. More blue light than our Sun all night long.
